Why wasn't Italy occupied after World War 2?
Italy was on the losing side in World War II, but it was the only major Axis power that didn’t get occupied after 1945. Unlike Germany, it wasn’t split up, and unlike Japan, it didn’t have its entire constitution rewritten.
Instead, Italy got disarmed, lost its overseas territories, and had to pay some reparations. But overall, it was back on decent terms with the Allies pretty quickly. So, that raises the question—why wasn’t Italy occupied like Germany or Japan?
